The course covers intense pulsed light in dermatology and clarifies the difference between IPL and lasers.    


Vascular and hyperpigmented disorders are discussed as well as contributing factors of genetics and ethnicity.  The effects of inflammation with darker skin types is covered and ways to pretreat the skin prior to the IPL treatment.  The learner will be able to identify and determine optimal parameters when managing Fitzpatrick phototypes I-IV, mitigating side effects.  Synergistic therapies and stacking procedures are suggested providing optimal patient outcomes.   


The study concludes with evaluation of a personal injury case and engages the learner to thought and mastering of the material.

  • Competent in determining IPL indications in dermatology.
  • Identify IPL physics. 
  • Proficient in determining IPL parameters.
  • Skillful with ethnic evaluation and client selection.
